The GAA is to investigate whether one of Donegal’s players that featured in their recent Dr McKenna Cup win over Armagh was eligible to play.
The player at the centre of the investigation is understood to be Naomh Conaill’s Finbarr Roarty, as concerns have been raised with the Ulster GAA council that he may have been too young to play in the fixture, according to the Irish Examiner.
According to the GAA, a player must have turned 18 before the 1st of January to be eligible for Senior County football fixtures, such as in the Dr McKenna Cup.
However it’s believed that Roarty turned 18 on Thursday, January 4th – meaning he would not have been able to appear in competitive senior football for the county.
Donegal could have to forefit their win over Armagh as a result if the Ulster GAA Council finds that the rules regarding player registration have been broken as a result of Roarty’s appearance.
