Tremors from the devastating New Year’s Day earthquake in Japan were recorded in Stranorlar.
A seismograph at St Columba’s College measured the earthquake which struck the remote Noto peninsula at 07:10 hrs GMT.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.5. Physics teacher there, Brendan O’Donoghue, was behind the school joining the international Seismology in Schools network.
Mr O’Donoghue said that, because the focus was shallow, the damage on the surface was worse than expected.
The death toll currently stands at 92, however, many more people are thought to be trapped under their collapsed homes.
