Donegal teenager Muireann Bradley is ‘trending’ all over this week following her star performance on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny!
The 17-year-old from Ballybofey delivered a pitch-perfect rendition of Candyman by Rev Gary Davis to millions of viewers on the annual New Year’s Eve programme on BBC2. And she received a standing ovation from those lucky enough to be in the audience.
As a result, Muireann’s debut album I Kept These Old Blues was the No.1 download on both iTunes Ireland and Amazon.co.uk yesterday.
In addition, the recording (below) of her amazing Hootenanny performance is currently the number one trending video on the BBC Music YouTube page with a staggering 315,000 views.
She has described performing on the show as a “really amazing experience”.
Muireann revealed she secured the much sought after spot on the legendary programme after Tompkins Square label founder, Josh Rosenthal, sent a copy of her album to its producer.
In what was her first ever performance on television, the blues singer and guitarist later took to the stage with music legend Rod Stewart and other stars for the show’s finale.
Stewart offered the teenager his microphone during the performance of Enjoy Yourself (It’s Later Than You Think).
Muireann describes her musical style as “folk blues” and said she grew up listening to the genre thanks to her dad.
