Gweedore NCT centre records Ireland’s second-worst failure rate

The Derrybeg NCT Centre in West Donegal has Ireland’s second highest failure rate, it has been revealed.

56% of vehicles tested at the Gweedore centre in 2023 failed the full test.

The Irish Independent reports that Cavan NCT Centre claimed the top spot with a 59% failure rate. Nationally, nearly half of the 1.5million vehicles failed their full NCT tests last year.

Operated by Spanish company Applus, the NCT service was introduced in 2000 to prevent road accidents caused by faulty vehicles.

A car must get an NCT every two years once it is four years old and every year when the car is 10 years old.
