A special 10-hour long charity “Playathon” is taking place next month to raise money for Make A Wish, after they granted a special request for a young Donegal woman late last year.
The fundraiser is being organised by music teacher Anne-Marie Devine after one of her students, Leanne, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last year.
Leanne Lynch was diagnosed with the disease last year, and has been determined to keep up her passion of playing music throughout her treatment.
Late in 2023, she received a new top-of-the-range piano accordion from Make A Wish Ireland – and now her teacher Anne-Marie wants to make sure that more young people are able to keep playing through whatever is ailing them.
On the fundraiser’s page, Anne-Marie said that the Playathon will be “…a personal challenge where I will be playing music along with many musician friends & singers for ten hours straight! All musicians/singers are welcome to come on the day & play for as long as they wish to.”
“I am hoping to raise £3,500 through this event and your support would mean everything in helping me achieve this goal. Every donation counts towards making every wish come true just like Leanne’s because for a child with cancer, hope is essential.”
The Playathon is taking place on Sunday the 25th of February from 1pm to 11pm, at Maggie’s Tavern.
