The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has issued a warning to members of the public over the posting of ‘inaccurate comments’ on social media about a missing Donegal woman.
Anita Robinson was last seen in Derry in the early hours of New Year’s Day and they say they are ‘growing concerned’ for her wellbeing.
“Police would like to clarify this is still an ongoing Missing Person Appeal. Some people have posted inaccurate comments which have understandably caused distress to all concerned,” a police spokesperson said.
“These posts have now been deleted (from the PSNI Facebook page). Furthermore, screenshots have been taken and the URL of those posting comments that they know to be untrue in order to cause needless anxiety may be guilty of an offence under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003. Police will be reviewing this in due course. Regardless of this, please be mindful when posting of those closest to Anita and who remain concerned for her at this time.”
Anita Robinson is described as approximately 5ft4, very slim build, long black hair tied in a ponytail. She is aged 26 and when last seen in Derry, she was wearing black jeans, a black coat and a black jumper. She has two dates of birth tattooed on her wrist and a scar on the inside of her right arm. Anita was last believed to be in the area of Derry in the early hours of January 1st.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Anita or matching her description to contact 101 and quote reference ‘1626 – 01/01/24’.
