There was a considerable drop in the number of people waiting on a bed at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) last year, according to the INMO.
In 2023, 5,448 admitted patients were waiting on beds at LUH, down from 7,008 in 2022, a drop of 22 per cent.
Nationally, 122,879 people were without hospital beds last year, according to the Irish Nurses’ and Midwives’ Organisation (INMO).
The figures also reveal that 3,494 children were admitted to hospital during last year without a bed.
The INMO says staffing and resources are just not adequate to meet the growing demand for hospital services.
This is being made worse by a HSE recruitment freeze on medical personnel.
