Kilmacrennan girl Taylor Beth McFadden has proudly unveiled her contribution to a special new book, “The Magic Within Our Ears.”
The book, launched this month by Chime Deaf Services, is a collection of stories, poems and illustrations by deaf and hard of hearing children in Ireland.
Taylor, 13, was born with profound deafness and has cochlear implants. Ever the creative pupil, she has been very active in the deaf community since she was a child. Three years ago she set up an Instagram page “Sign To Hear,” which she uses to teach people sign language. Taylor and her family have had many celebrity helpers sharing words along the way.
In her piece for the Chime book, Taylor reflects on her hearing journey and shares a beautiful drawing of all her favourite sounds.
Taylor is delighted that her contribution to the book will help parents of deaf and hard of hearing children see that anything is possible, even with a hearing loss.
The opportunity arose when Taylor attended the Chime teenage summer camp back in July and was asked to participate in the book. She reconnected with the charity again this month for the official launch of the book.
Every copy sold supports the essential services of Chime.
This collection celebrates the voices and visions of these young storytellers and is now available for purchase at shop.chime.ie/products/the-magic-within-our-ears.
