Letterkenny photographer Brian Mc Daid will soon embark on a journey of a lifetime to support the Donegal Hospice, and the response has been nothing short of remarkable.
Brian, who turns the big 6-0 in January, plans to drive all around Ireland in an eighteen-year-old Toyota Passo.
It was always his dream to hit the open road in a Toyota Passo, and when a Facebook ad popped up last month with a little blue car for sale, he knew she was the one.
Affectionately amed ‘Betsy’, the little Passo has nearly 200,000km on her clock. She is set to undergo a graphic makeover, showcasing the names of local businesses that have joined forces to support the cause.
Brian has already surpassed his initial target of €6,000, raising over €5,000 through the iDonate platform and receiving additional donations directly. This outpouring of support has left Brian feeling “humbled” as he approaches the trip.
“It’s a great feeling going into Christmas very happy and humbled by the support so fast,” he said.
Brian’s journey to the fundraising kick-off on January 2nd is every bit as significant as the fundraising itself. He is eager to visit iconic locations along the way, such as the Knockalla coast road.
The difficult part for Brian is asking for the money but Betsy has made that a bit easier and every penny counts, big and small, that will go to a very good local cause the Donegal Hospice that does great work caring for loved ones in difficult times.
As Brian embarks on his leisurely drive around Ireland, he will be guided by maps provided by local hero and rally navigator Rory Kennedy, who won multiple Circuits of Ireland alongside the late Bertie Fisher.
With Brian’s determination and the unwavering support of the community, the Donegal Hospice is in for a significant boost thanks to this remarkable fundraising effort.
