Donegal will be cheering on Layla Doherty today as she represents her home in the Miss Earth world final in Vietnam.
The Coronation event takes place today in Ho Chi Minh, where 85 young women from all over the world are competing to be crowned this year’s winner.
The environmental themed pageant is based on ‘Beauties for a Cause’, and Layla has chosen to use her platform to highlight a cause close to her heart.
The 22-year-old student from Ballyliffin is personally affected by the defective concrete blocks crisis. Throughout her journey, she has taken every opportunity to highlight the issues faced by her family and the thousands of others in her community who live in crumbling homes.
Layla’s advocacy campaign during the competition has been concerned with the waste generated by the demolition of defective building materials and sustainable building practices.
The winner of Miss Earth 2023 will serve as the Ambassador to environmental protection campaigns worldwide.
