Two Letterkenny podcasters have wrapped up an incredible year of their podcast with the filming of a star-studded special this week.
V&M Podcast hosts Vinny Mc Laughlin and Marty Brogan filmed their second live show at Century Complex on Monday, with a packed Bida’s bar seeing special guests, Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Danny O’Carroll and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Jordan O’Keefe, catching up with the lads.
The laughter couldn’t be contained during the recording as Vinny and Marty, in their unique style, talked to Danny about Christmas traditions around the hugely-popular Mrs Brown’s Boys shows and specials. Derry singer/songwriter Jordan provided stellar entertainment as well as an interview hitting on personal topics of health and mental health.
The episode will be available for streaming on Christmas Eve for people to get into the spirit over the holidays.
V&M podcast started as two friends having the craic in their living room, but in just a short time it spread its wings and gained well-known guests and sponsorship from businesses across the county. Vinny and Marty are rarely on the couch anymore as they get invites to record their show in local businesses.
Their guests vary each time, from sports stars to local personalities, businesspeople to influencers. The show mixes humour with serious topics to get to the heart of matters.
The humour of the podcast is definitely for over 18s, but Vinny and Marty have also reached an important audience of young people, particularly men, creating a safe and open space to talk about mental health.
“We think it’s massive for men to talk, but even better again is laughing. We always say if you can bottle the feeling you get from laughing, it would work wonders for people,” Vinny said.
Marty adds: “If anyone is struggling or down, we ask them to get in contact with someone. Even if you want to drop us a message we love talking to people and pointing them to getting the help they need.”
As their followers grow, so too do the opportunities, from raising €800 for Movember to getting invites to work with large established businesses, Vinny and Marty have been surprised by the invites that come their way.
“We could never have imagined all that we did this year, the people we’ve met and made close friends with. We cannot thank our guests enough for the support and the business we’ve worked with. We’ve loved every minute of it,” said Vinny.
Marty said: “It’s very busy and it was very difficult to start, but we love it. We worried about equipment, ideas and what people would think. In the end up, we just went for it and the minute the first episode went out we were blown away by the response.”
Bigger things are coming in 2024, the lads say. A major live event is in the pipeline in the New Year with details to be revealed!
“We can’t thank our followers and supporters enough,” Marty said.
“We want to wish everyone a happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year,” said Vinny.
“We hope everyone loves the Christmas special as much as we loved making it. What a way it was to finish the year. People are already looking for monthly live shows!” said Vinny.
V&M podcast is now produced by Pauric McGranaghan from MG Media.
