Daniel O’Donnell has said his wife Majella and her family are still trying to come to terms with the loss of their mother who died in September.
Majella’s mum Marion Roche was the rock of the family.
It was Marion who introduced Daniel to Majella in Tenerfife.
The singer said Majella and her family are still coming to terms with Marion’s loss.
He told RSVP magazine “They’re trying to accept that their mother has died. She was 86, she had dementia and she didn’t have a long illness, but that doesn’t take away from their sense of loss.”
The marriage of Majella’s son Michael in Italy in July may well lift the spirits.
Daniel, who hasn’t revealed yet if he will sing at the wedding, explained “He’s getting married in Italy in July. We’re really looking forward to that.”
His role as a grandfather to Olivia, Archie and Luca is something he cherishes.
He said: “They’re great. We chat everyday and they’re always very busy with everything they do. They bring a lot of joy to us.
Daniel and Majella celebrated 20 years of marriage last year and they renewed their vows at home in Co Donegal.
He revealed “We had a lovely time. It was quite a ceremony with Fr Martin, a couple of friends, Siobhan and her husband Gavin, Michael and Sarah and the grandchildren.
“It was just us, a lovely small gathering around the table for dinner. We read out some nice pieces, Majella didn’t know about it until the day. We did it on our 10th anniversary as well.”
It was very easy for Daniel to keep it a surprise as he explained: “I just didn’t tell her!”
