The festive spirit was in full swing at St Eunan’s nursing home this morning as pupils from St Bernadette’s special school visited residents to deliver a heartwarming Christmas concert.
The young singers, who have been pen pals with some of the nursing home residents for the past year, treated their audience to a selection of traditional carols and festive favourites.
The young pupils have a great friendship with the St Eunan’s community through a recent pen pal project, and were delighted to fill the halls with festive fun and cheer this morning.
The concert was a chance for the two groups of friends to reconnect and share some special moments together.
Pupils began writing letters to residents of the Letterkenny home last year in an effort to improve literacy skills with a relevant focus, as well as improving awareness and respect for elderly members of our local community. This partnership saw a ‘penpal’ being created for the children to write to, and subsequently, they would then become the excited receiver of a letter from their partner at the nursing home.
Today’s visit featured the St Bernadette’s school choir, while three junior cycle classes will visit next week to hand deliver Christmas cards that they made for their penpals at St Eunan’s.
As we all know, Christmas is a wonderful time to bring all ends of our community together and a bit of music always helps!
