In a story showing a bit of Christmas spirit, a number of people who damaged the Buncrana town Christmas tree last night have shown a change of heart.
On social media the town’s christmas lights organisers said that after an earlier post, those responsible for the damage came forward to them and offered to pay the €800 repair bill after their antics on Friday night.
The damage was such that the lights could not be turned on today as a result.
But perhaps fearing some coal in their stockings from Santa, the perpetrators owned up and “sincerely apologised” for their actions.
The committee that looks after the lights have urged locals to not interfere with it and its decorations, which have been paid for by the local community – and reminded anyone thinking of doing some damage of their high quality CCTV camera that caught last night’s vandals.
Luckily this festive tale seemingly has a happy ending.
Who says that the spirit of the Christmas is dead after all?
