A fundraising campaign has been launched to help save a historic church in east Donegal.
St Columba’s church, Drumoghill, has been the hub of the parish and local community for almost 200 years. However, its condition has deteriorated in recent times and urgent restoration and repairs are needed to save it for future generations.
As a result, a GoFundMe page has been set up with a target of €50,000.
“If you have been in the chapel in recent years, you will, no doubt, have noticed that time has taken its toll on the building,” a spokesperson for the fundraising committee said.
“Without major restoration efforts, we will lose our beloved parish church. Over the years, our community members have shown their passion, creativity, and generosity by raising money for the church restoration fund. All of this work has got us to where we are today, ready to start the restoration project, but the work isn’t done yet.”
The latest restoration fund was established in order to complete the renovation works and to ensure the parish church can continue to be the heart of the community for generations to come.
“Drumoghill is a small place, but our community members have spread across the world. If you have memories from our parish church, consider donating to, or sharing, our fundraiser to support a new era for Drumoghill.”
All donations will go directly to the Drumoghill Parish Building Fund account.
