Donegal soldier Denis Kelly signed off from the army recently after a lifetime of service.
Private Kelly, from St Johnston, has served his country for more than 42 years.
Denis joined the army as a young man in 1981.
He was based in Lifford from 1981 to 2009 and then at Finner Camp until recently.
Denis went on his first trip to the Lebanon in 1984.
And during that time he served no less than NINE tours of duty overseas with the United Nations UNIFIL in South Lebanon.
Colleagues of Private Kelly this week paid tribute to the long-serving soldier and said they would like to wish him well in his retirement.
He now plans to travel with wife Bridget and spend time with his 4 grandchildren Dylan, Caitlín, Mícheál & Seán and hopes that one day one of them will perhaps follow in his footsteps.
