A local TD has described the horrifying moment he saw a lorry lose ‘complete control’ and almost crash outside a west Donegal school after dropping his children off.
Pearse Doherty was speaking during a surprise appearance at today’s monthly Joint Policing Committee (JPC) meeting in Lifford.
He described witnessing the incident outside Scoil Chonaill in Bunbeg shortly after dropping off his own children.
“I was dropping off my own kids there when a lorry lost complete control and was skidding everywhere, I never want to witness that again,” Deputy Doherty said.
While no one was injured in the incident, he directly asked the Garda Chief Superintendent for Donegal, Aidan Glacken, to ensure there were more garda patrols outside the school.
He also commended Gardaí for operating speed checks and checkpoints outside Dunkineely National School in south Donegal following a number of near misses there.
