Watch: Dreaming of a “Green” Christmas in Donegal Town!

Donegal Town hair salon Studio Five, which is celebrating 20 years in business, today unveiled a Christmas window with a difference. 

The unique ‘green’ window features handmade decor made with recycled materials thanks to a team of eco-friendly helpers from Donegal ETB.

The window was created through a collaboration of students on Donegal ETB’s eBusiness with Digital Marketing programme and The Bluestack Foundation’s ETB Core Skills Class in the FET centre in Donegal Town.  

Their mission: to transform Studio 5’s window into a Green Christmas display that champions the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Together, they brought this theme to life, showcasing creative ways to repurpose materials for the holiday season.

Sustainability continues to be a fundamental element of all Donegal ETB programmes and this window showcases the application of learning for all our students.

Amidst the collective effort, a charming character from Saint Vincent de Paul – “Charlie” – a toy elf, was revived and renewed.  He has become the silent storyteller of this project. 

The students from Donegal ETB lovingly used Charlie to document each step of their collaborative endeavour. 

The two classes have worked together over the last few weeks to weave some green magic into the window display. 

“This project exemplifies how diverse talents, when combined, can weave magic and leave an enduring mark on the community,” said Chloe McLaughlin, Digital Marketing Teacher. 

The team from the Bluestack Foundation says: “The members of our ETB Core Skills class have loved having the opportunity to get involved in such a fun inclusive project, our trainees loved having the opportunity to make a small difference in our community by showcasing the importance of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’, especially at this time of the year.”

Today, Irene Doherty in Studio 5, is delighted with her window display and very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with the FET eBusiness with Digital Marketing and Bluestack Core Skills students.

“Teamwork and Community inclusion played a strong part in this collaboration.  Beyond the glitz and glamour of this festive window, this initiative stands as a testament to the significance of cross-curricular activities, transferrable skills, inclusion and the transformative impact of ‘Teamwork’ within our beautiful community of Donegal Town,” said Caroline Gillespie, Co-ordinator.

As Donegal Town sparkles with Christmas glow, Studio 5’s Christmas window serves as an inspirational call to the community to embrace sustainability, teamwork and the joy of creating something beautiful together.
