Donegal Gardaí have reminded members of the public of the importance of having a Senior Alert Scheme (SAS) monitored alarm for older people.
The scheme was established to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities. It provides funding for a personal monitored alarm, connected to a contact centre to enable older persons of 65 or older and of limited means, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.
The SAS operates through local, community-based voluntary and not-for-profit organisations throughout the county. Funding is available under the scheme for the purchase of equipment by a registered organisation on behalf of eligible, elderly people in their community i.e. a personal alarm and pendant. In addition, the first year’s alarm monitoring charges are funded under the SAS.
