Grants have been approved to renovate 10 vacant and derelict homes in Buncrana.
Claire Irwin, best known by many for her involvement in the RTÉ show Room to Improve, is also a Buncrana local – and she announced the news on social media this week.
“This was made up of 9 soon-to-be rental properties and 1 primary residence that will be brought back to life over the coming months in our town,” Claire said.
“10 construction projects for local contractors and subcontractors to tackle over the next year, 10 jobs for the local hardware stores to provide materials to, 10 kitchens, 10 sets of windows and doors, 10 sofas, 10 kitchen tables, 10 heat pumps and 10 SEAI grants! This grant offers a game changing cash injection to a vacant property project.”
The welcome announcement comes after a week full of discussions around the Government’s vacant properties’ grant, after Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty claimed in the Dail that no one from Donegal had drawn down funds from it in the last 18 months.
However, Donegal County Council revealed to Donegal Daily that 424 applications for the scheme had been processed, with 150 approved, and one grant fully paid out after works were completed.
