A number of Donegal motorists have been put off the road after they failed to turn up in court to pay fines for parking in disabled bays.
The drivers had received fixed penalty notices but failed to pay them.
When the cases were called at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court this week, the drivers failed to show.
Judge Ciaran Liddy hit the drivers with fines, costs and also issued them with driving bans.
The cases were taken by Donegal County Council against the drivers for parking in a disabled parking bay without displaying a disabled person parking permit.
THe first case taken was against Marco Antonio Tavares Rogerio of Apartment 66, Burnside Park, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.
He was charged that on April 3rd this year, he parked in a disabled persons parking bay at Ramelton Road, Letterkenny without displaying a disabled persons parking permit.
His name was called but he failed to appear and he had no legal representation.
He was convicted, fined €250 and ordered to pay €138 costs to Donegal County Council and allowed 3 months to pay.
Judge Liddy also disqualified him from driving for 3 months.
Another motorist, a Miley Connors of 3 Canal Road, Letterkenny, was also charged that on April 28th this year he parked in a disabled persons parking bay at Court House Car Park, Letterkenny without displaying a disabled persons parking permit.
He was convicted, fined €250 and ordered to pay €138 costs to Donegal County Council and allowed 3 months to pay.
He was also disqualified from driving for 6 months.
