A Ukrainian refugee has been ordered to return to City West after being arrested for an alleged assault in West Donegal yesterday.

Andrii Markov was hauled before Falcarragh District Court today (Wed).

Markov, a 44-year-old, was arrested at Seaview Hotel in Gweedore on Tuesday. Markov was charged with assaulting a woman. The charge is contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

Markov was kept in Garda custody overnight and brought before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham on Wednesday.

A translator was present in court to assist with the proceedings.

Inspector Seamus McGonigle said evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Markov was handed in to court by way of schedule.

Bail terms were agreed to by the State, the court heard.

Judge Cunningham granted bail with conditions attached. Markov is to reside at City West in Dublin and was ordered to have no contact with the alleged injured party, either directly or indirectly.

The City West transit hub in Dublin is for people who arrive in Ireland to seek refuge and is operated by the Department of Integration.

Markov is to notify Gardai of any change of his address.

The case was adjourned until the December 12 sitting of Dungloe District Court.
