A new 110 bed nursing unit in Letterkenny is scheduled to open in early 2026.
Work on the centre, located on the Kilmacrennan Road, has been underway in recent days.
The commencement of the building of the new nursing unit in Letterkenny has been welcomed by Donegal government minister, Charlie McConalogue.
He said “The arrival of plant equipment at the site on Kilmacrennan Road close to Letterkenny University Hospital is great news for the people of Letterkenny and Donegal,” the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine commented.
The community nursing unit, which will cost €59 million, is being built by local contractors, Boyle Construction.
Minister McConalogue added “The HSE has indicated that the unit, which will provide a mix of long-stay and short-stay beds for rehabilitation and dementia care users, will be completed in 2026.
“The estimated time for completion is 28 months from the contract award, so all going well, the new 110-bed community nursing unit will be fully operational in the first quarter of 2026,” Minister McConalogue said.
“This new state-of-the-art nursing unit is a significant development in the provision of healthcare for the older adult population in Letterkenny and Donegal.
“It will also be of great support to Letterkenny University Hospital and will have the capacity to accommodate a step-down service,” he added.
