The power of Storm Debi revealed its devastating force at Assaranca Waterfall when torrents of water tore up the road and caused landslides.
Assaranca waterfall outside Ardara often shows the full power of mother nature, but last night’s storm brought a shocking level of water crashing down onto the road, leaving the entire area impassable this morning.
Landslides were seen on the hill as the heavy water sent stones and debris cascading down.
Watch here:
Residents in a nearby house had a narrow escape when a boulder crashed down the hill and bounced off their wall.
Nearby at the Mass Rock at Leaconnell, the capping was torn completely off the bridge and washed onto the road side.
“It looked like there was an earthquake,” said one local resident.
“People who have lived here all their lives have never seen it as bad.
“It was unbelievable, but things could have been so much worse. Imagine if someone was driving on the road and a rock came down on them?”
Donegal County Council staff were in action soon after the flooding died down.
Staff cleared the road of the debris within hours and the road is passable again. However the surface remains badly cut up and motorists are urged to take extreme care if they must travel on this route.
