Fines are to double for dog owners who are in breach of the law with their pets.
The fines are part of an overall package of stricter rules being introduced on controlling dogs in Ireland as dog attacks increase across the country.
Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys will sign new regulations following a number of high profile attacks.
A total of 144 children out of 460 people were hospitalised after such dog attacks last year.
Minister Humphreys will ask a high-level stakeholder group to consider expanding the list of restricted breeds.
She will also sign regulations later to double on-the-spot fines for offences under the Control of Dogs Act from €150 to €300.
This means dogs must be under control and on a lead in public spaces if required by local bylaws.
The minister will also announce €2 million in funding for dog control services, including the upgrade of dog shelter facilities.
The minister said she wants to send out a strong message to dog owners that if their animals are not controlled they will be fined.
