Donegal man found with indecent images of children to stand trial

November 6, 2023

A man has been sent forward for trial after being caught in possession of indecent images of children.

Terence Steele appeared at Letterkenny District Court on Monday where a book of evidence was served.

The 49-year-old, with an address at Ashlea Grove, Killea, did not speak during the brief hearing before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham.

Steele is charged that he did knowingly have in his possession three unique images and 10 unique video files which constitute child pornography. The charge is contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

The charge related to May 18, 2022 at his home address.

Garda Pauline Doherty gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on Steele at 10.25am on Monday at Letterkenny courthouse.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for Steele to be forwarded to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, which commences in January.

Judge Cunningham made an order returning Steele for trial and administered the alibi warning.

The accused man was represented by solicitor Mr Kieran O’Gorman. Two legal counsel were assigned in the case and Steele was remanded on continuing bail.
