Eamonn Mc Devitt, the founder of the Good and New Cancer Bus, has sadly passed away.
The Newmills man passed peacefully in Letterkenny University Hospital yesterday, surrounded by his loving family.
His death has been described as a huge loss to the local community.
The Good and New service, founded 23 years ago, has been a lifeline to Donegal people affected by cancer who have to travel to Galway for treatment. Eamonn, a cancer survivor himself, and his fellow volunteers have provided a first-class service, free of charge, to patients and their families making the 200km journey for necessary treatment. Over the years, the charity has developed to provide a fundraising shop and drop-in centre, offering essential support for people and their families affected by cancer.
Eamonn was a “giant of a man for what he did for countless families in Donegal”, said a tribute from the Northern Tribute motorcycle club.

Eamonn is survived by his devoted wife Lynn, his loving children James, Cathy, Eamonn, Ryan, Shane, Tom and granddaughter Ayda, along with his brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, godchildren and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours.

Removal today, Saturday, 4th November, from Eternal Light Chapel Of Rest Mountain, Top Letterkenny, at 1pm going to his late residence. Funeral from there on Monday morning, 6th November, going to St. Columba’s Church, Glenswilly, for requiem Mass at 11am followed by interment in Temple Douglas Cemetery.
Family time from 10pm to 11am and on the morning of the funeral.
