While some parts of Ireland experienced the wettest October on record, it was unusually dry in Donegal, according to Met Éireann.
The month’s lowest rainfall total was 92.0mm, recorded at Finner.
Cork Airport weather station saw its highest amount of October rainfall on record last month, while nine stations broke their October maximum temperature records. Met Éireann said that the majority of rainfall totals were above the 1981-2010 Long-Term Average (LTA).
Meanwhile, the month’s highest gust and 10-minute wind speed was reported at Malin Head. The highest gust was 106km/h while the highest 10-minute mean wind speed was 87km/h.
Met Éireann climatologist Paul Moore told RTÉ’s News at One: “The south especially in the south and southeast and east had well above average rainfall, especially the south.
“And then the northwest, a lot of stations in the northwest had below average rainfall for October.
“And nine stations around the country have had over 100% of their annual rainfall already with two months to go, so it has been a wet year so far.”
He added that there is currently no sign of the weather settling down soon.
