Tír Chonaill Gaels are set to play in the London Senior Football Final, and as the name suggests they’re a club with deep Donegal roots, both past and present.
They play Fulham Irish in the London final at McGovern Park in Ruislip on Sunday afternoon.
When the club was first founded, it consisted mainly of people from Donegal, and the side saw instant success in winning the first London Senior Football Championship.
Three Donegal men will be lining out for Tír Chonaill Gaels on Sunday – David O’Donnell from Burt, and first-year men Darrell McGuire from Ardara and Finn Gallagher from Glencolmcille.
There’s also heavy Donegal influence in management, as former Tír Chonaill Gaels player turned Manager Brendan “Breaker” Friel from Termon commands the side from the sidelines.
Tomorrow’s final appearance against Fulham Irish is their first final since 2018, and they are relishing the chance to become champions again.
The winner of the London Championship will go on to play the Mayo champions as they enter the Connacht Club Championship.
