Parents are being asked to play their part in ensuring their children safely celebrate a youth disco later tonight (Friday).

Several hundred young people from around the Donegal region are expected to attend a teenage disco in Letterkenny this Friday night and Gardaí say they will be on patrol.

Traffic delays are to be expected during drop-off and pick-up times.

A Garda statement read: “We urge all parents to talk to their teens in relation to the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

“Make sure they have travel arrangements sorted before they leave home and that you are aware of what their arrangements are.

“Know who your teen will be attending the disco with and get a contact number for them if possible also.

“Please ensure that your teen will only have enough money with them for the purposes of travel, entry to the club and soft drinks! Unfortunately temptation is out there and peer pressure also plays a part.

“We can all do our bit to ensure that the teens will have a good night and more importantly that they will have a safe one!”

The contact number for Letterkenny Garda Station is 0749167100
