A charity climb up Errigal in honour of the late Liam ‘Gutcha’ Haughey has raised more than €45,000 for the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT) and Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club.
On October 1, a large group of climbers scaled Donegal’s highest peak in memory of their dear friend who died tragically in March.
The climb and fundraiser, organised Liam’s son Lee, has reached over €13,000 online via the GoFundme platform, with tens of thousands more raised by many locals and organisations.
“The numbers are in, and we are delighted to announce that €45,156 has been raised,” Lee said this week.
“We are overwhelmed with the final tally. We would like to thank the following: Everyone who made a donation, big or small, is truly appreciated; all those who helped on the day; those who took part in the climb and those who generously donated their services in preparation for the day.
“The money raised will be divided between Donegal Mountain Rescue Team and Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club, two organisations that we will be forever grateful to.”
