Gaoth Dobhair football legend Kevin Cassidy has announced he’s hanging up his boots.
The former Donegal captain has played 23 years at club level, and now at the age of 42, he’s calling it a day.
Cassidy competed in Gaoth Dobhair’s reserves squad who were beaten by Aodh Ruadh on Sunday.
Cassidy announced his retirement following the club’s defeat in the senior county final, writing on X: “You win some you lose some but we had some journey all the same since 1998.
“I will be eternally grateful for what Gaoth Dobhair GAA gave me. The future is bright.”
Cassidy had predicted the seventh win for Naomh Conaill as they took on Gaoth Dobhair in the Donegal senior championship, saying that emigration has impacted his home club greatly.

Cassidy had a long career in the county jersey, but his intercounty career ended in controversy when he was dropped by manager Jim McGuinness for contributing to a book. As a result, Cassidy missed out on the 2012 All-Ireland win.
Cassidy continued to play club football, winning three Senior Championships in 2002, 2006 and 2018 and the Ulster club title in 2018.
