Two motorists were caught speeding outside a south Donegal school today while Gardaí were giving a road safety demonstration to children.
The Donegal Town Roads Policing Unit teamed up with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) this morning at Kilbarron National School, Ballyshannon, for their ‘Safety at the gate’ day.
A speed check was conducted on the road outside the school and two Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued. One driver was detected travelling at 76 kph, the other at 75 kph – the legal speed limit in that area is 60 kph. Last week a motorist was caught speeding outside Dunkineely National School.
“Motorists, please ensure to slow down when approaching a school. Abide by the rules of the road and expect the unexpected at all times,” a garda spokesperson said.
Garda John Cahalin and Garda Darragh Hussey gave a talk to the children of Kilbarron NS in relation to road safety and they also gave a demonstration of the speed gun. The children asked loads of great questions and they had great fun trying on the uniform, looking around the patrol car, listening to the siren and trying out the tetra radio.
