A man from Convoy has received a four-year driving ban for driving without insurance.
Gardai responded to a single-vehicle road traffic collision at Carnview, Ballybofey on April 17, 2022 at 6.20pm.
Officers spoke to Adam Crawford, aged 24 of Killynure, Convoy, who admitted to being the driver of the vehicle.
Crawford failed to produce documents to Gardai.
The accused has a previous conviction for driving without insurance from 2018. Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that Crawford also has previous convictions for careless driving and for a hit-and-run.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said the previous conviction for driving without insurance ‘ties my hands’.
Mr Frank Murphy, solicitor for Crawford, said his client was aware that the court’s hands were tied.
“He had intermittent insurance and the failure to have insurance here was due to his own demons,” Mr Murphy said, adding that Crawford pleaded guilty at the earliest possible opportunity.
Judge Cunningham convicted Crawford, fining him €250 and allowing six months to pay. Crawford was also handed a four-year ban from driving.
