The official trailer has just been released of a fascinating new film about an Arranmore man who twice swam around Ireland.
Man of Arran beautifully tells the story of unstoppable Arranmore Islander Paddy Conaghan (82) completed his second circuit of Ireland swim challenge in March.
Starting in early December last year, he swam at over 500 piers and beaches on his journey around the coastline to raise awareness for local mental health services.
His first journey began in December 2021 and was completed in February 2022, raising over €100,000 for a Donegal-based counselling charity.
Directed and produced by Paul McCambridge, Man of Arran is described as a ‘ love letter to humanity from a wise man’.
“In step with these times and in tune with his environment: – it’s a homage to the craggy, rugged, wild Irish coastline,” the film’s blurb reads.
“A gentle celebration of empathy and humility from an 82 year old swimmer pushing himself to impossible lengths in communion with nature and with compassion for a friend’s grief. There are no stereotypes or cliches that chime effectively with this film but to connect with a few… It is uplifting, inspiring and beautiful.”
