Donegal County Council has been urged to erect more warning signs on busy cycling routes in Letterkenny.
The route from the Aura Leisure Centre to Glenswilly’s National School, GAA ground and onwards to Churchill is frequently used by cyclists. However, the bends on the road give rise to safety concerns regarding overtaking.
“Cyclists are saying there is a need for additional signage around the town,” Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh told this week’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
Cllr Kavanagh voiced cyclists’ requests for signage to be designed to ask motorists to indicate when passing cyclists, as indicating acts as a warning to motorists behind them as well as oncoming motorists.
The council responded to say that they will consider adding a supplementary plate to signs to remind drivers to leave 1.5 metres between them and cyclists.
