Donegal man Niall Timony overcame a personal battle to take home a Silver medal from the Irish Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship at the weekend.
Taking to Facebook, he said it was a big day for him yesterday, stepping back on the competition mats after a lengthy break.
“Suffering majorly from severe anxiety, I haven’t competed in four and a bit years,” he said.
“At times I am my own worst enemy and I’ve done a lot of work over the last few years to combat this. So, today I kept my cool, focused on my breathing, blocked out the noise and took a silver medal home after two really hard matches.”
The Donegal town man added he was delighted for all the troops from the association this week who stepped onto the mats.
“Our clubs are growing extremely strong and it’s a testament to all the hard work from us all and our coaches.”
