This week’s Dunkineely/Bruckless/Killaghtee Community Notes have been published.
Coach Trip
Dunkineely Celtic arranged a trip to the Finn Harps game on 29 th September.
A stop at Supermac’s for some food started the fun, followed by free entry for kids to the game.
No away supporters so they had the away fans area to themselves! And they were given flags. With such a great atmosphere it was a really exciting night. Hopefully they will play on that pitch some day!
The coach trip was partially funded by the SICAP Connecting Communities grant and DLDC, obtained by DCL. It was great to see our local football fans getting the opportunity to travel to Ballybofey.
Classic Car and Tractor Run
The rescheduled Annual Dunkineely Road Run will now take place on Saturday 14 th October.
Vintage and classic cars and all tractors are welcome.
Assembly from 12:00 midday at the Methodist Church. Leaving Dunkineely village between 2 and 2:30pm. Refreshments served on return to Dunkineely. Proceeds to local charities.
Gospel Concert
Join Warren Smyth and the Avoda Band on Saturday 21 st October in the Dunkineely Methodist Church. Tickets are €12 and supper will be provided.
Drive Safely at Dunkineely NS
The incident at Dunkineely NS last month was discussed at the latest meeting of Donegal Joint Policing Committee (JPC).
Fresh calls have been made for urgent action to prevent a repeat incident.
Donegal TD Pearse Doherty said a number of similar incidents have occurred at the same location in recent times.
Councillor Noel Jordan said the N56 is a “very busy road” and that measures taken to slow traffic are “simply not working”.
“It’s a disgrace that parents are concerned to such an extent that they have resorted to standing out on the road to slow traffic,” he said.
While there is a temporary Go Safe Zone implemented by the Gardaí at the location, the school has stated that there is only one solution – to provide space for children to be dropped off on the same side of the road to the school. They have also outlined how this could be achieved.
Come Work for Us
We have an opportunity for the right person to work in the community, through the TÚS Initiative and gain some experience or learn new skills. If you are aged between 21 and 60+, unemployed and receiving an eligible welfare benefit payment, you may qualify to work at DCL.
If interested, please contact us at dunkineelycommunity@gmail.com for more information on the TÚS Initiative.
Arlo
Many of you will have heard that a young colt named Arlo has gone missing the Dunkineely area.
He’s too young to be separated from his mum so early, so any information on his whereabouts is vital. Its owners are devastated and have put out a video appeal on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/535177705/videos/1757064944732139/
Unfortunately, as it’s been over a week with no sign, it looks as if he has likely been stolen.
A reward is offered for his safe return. If you know anything that could help his return, please contact us or one of the many groups involved in raising awareness about this.
Killaghtee NS
The school is currently accepting enrolments for the school year 2024/25.
