An impressive €30,000 donation was made by the Malin community to Lough Swilly RNLI last weekend, with a generous contribution of €20,000 from one inspirational family.
The Byrnes spent the last few months actively fundraising in memory of their dad, John (JB) who sadly passed in July 2022. Four of John’s nine children undertook a charity cycle from Mizen Head to Malin Head this summer to mark the first anniversary of his death. The event was very well supported, raising €20,000 in total.
The Byrnes’ donation was combined with other great efforts by the Malin RNLI Fundraising Branch this year which raised a further €10,000, including an August Bank Holiday gig at McClean’s Bar.
The funds will go towards lifesaving training and equipment for the RNLI.
This officially takes the money raised by the Malin team over the €200,000 mark over the last 30 years, which is an incredible achievement.
The community celebrated their hard work at a presentation night in McClean’s on Saturday.
John McCarter from Lough Swilly RNLI expressed his gratitude for the donation and presented a certificate of thanks on behalf of the RNLI to all Malin volunteers past and present for their work since 1993.
