A three-year timeline has been given for the completion of the new 110-bed community nursing unit in Letterkenny.

The €58.6 million development at Kilmacrennan Road will provide a mix of long and short-stay beds for rehabilitation and dementia care uses.

Cllr Ciaran Brogan received an update on the project at this week’s Regional Health Forum West.

The HSE said that works are expected to begin next month, following the awarding of a public works contract in the coming weeks.

The programme for the works is approximately 28 months, with an expected completion date for construction works in early 2026.

Cllr Brogan said the development is good news for Letterkenny and for Donegal, adding: “I would like to compliment everyone involved in this project over a long number of years and I know now it’s a matter of us dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.”
