The community of Buncrana has been shocked and saddened by the sudden death of a much-loved local woman, Sinead McLaughlin.
Mrs McLaughlin (née Monteith) passed away in Letterkenny University Hospital, after taking ill at Ludden beach on Sunday.
Emergency services including Rescue 118 helicopter, Greencastle Coast Guard and Buncrana Fire Services as well as the ambulance service were called to the scene.
Originally from Park, Co. Derry, Sinead is the beloved wife of Martin and devoted mother of Amy, loving daughter of Johnny and Annie Monteith, loving sister of Sharon, Yvonne and John, Daughter-in-law of Mary McLaughlin, Cockhill Road, Buncrana.
She will be sadly missed by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and her family circle and many friends.
Sinead has been remembered as a fun-loving, friendly and caring person who was full of life and love.
Buncrana Councillor Jack Murray said: “I was very saddened to hear of the sudden, untimely, and tragic passing of Sinead. Sinead was extremely passionate about Ludden Beach, where she lost her life, and would have regularly contacted me to highlight the need for improved facilities for her fellow sea swimmers.
“My sincerest condolences to her family, friends and all who loved her at this deeply sad time.”
Sinead’s friends at the Inishowen Choir of Ages shared a touching tribute: “The whole town is so shocked at the passing of Sinead McLaughlin, a totally beautiful human inside and out and a friend to so many. She was also a treasured member of our Inishowen Choir of Ages, so we are postponing our return until next Wednesday, Oct 4th. We know she would want us to sing as joyfully as if she was there, but just not this week.
“She was so kind and open to every person she met, and few will leave a mark like hers. We send our love to all her family here and in Park, Co. Derry. We were blessed to share her company and she will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace and sing with the Angels Sinead.”
Saint Joseph’s Gaelic Athletic Club Craigbane have extended their sincere condolences to the family of Sinead McLaughlin (nee Monteith) and said: “Sinead is originally from Park. She was a former player and one of the founding members of our ladies team. Sinead’s father Johnny was a very active club member for many years. She is the sister of our former player John Monteith and aunt of current players Conor and Caolan McLaughlin. May she rest in peace.”
Funeral Details:Remains will repose at her residence at 4 Hillview, Buncrana from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. tonight Monday and from 11a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday 26th September, house private on the morning of the funeral.
