Daniel O’Donnell has been forced to issue a statement after a con artist posed as him in the wake of his mother-in-law Marion Roche’s death.
Mrs Roche, the beloved mother of Daniel’s wife Majella, passed away on Monday last at St Mary’s nursing home in Galway.
Daniel took to his own social media channels to tell fans of the sad news and to pay tribute to Marion.
However, Daniel has now been forced to make a video warning fans that an imposter has hacked his Facebook site and posed online as the singer.
Daniel revealed “I just want to make you aware that under the post somebody has set up a fake page and is answering messages pretending that it’s me.
“I just want you to know that I have not answered or messaged any of you back and I don’t want you to interact with this person in any way.”
Daniel added that he is worried his fans may be scammed if they interact with the hacker.
“It’s a fake page and there’s no telling what this person might do as regards scamming if you get involved in messaging them.
“Thank you very much again for your messaging at this very difficult time for the family at Marion’s passing.”
Daniel had paid tribute to Marion in an earlier post.
“Marion was a beautiful person,” he wrote.
“Many who met her often referred to her as ‘A Lady’. I was blessed to have her as my mother in law. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. May she rest in peace.”
A requiem Mass was celebrated for Marion, who was predeceased by her loving husband Tom, at St. Peter’s, Moycarkey, Thurles, Co Tipperary today followed by a private cremation.
