It was another busy and successful week for Rosses AC athletes of all ages.
Sunday last saw the Donegal 5k road championship taking place in Letterkenny.
A good morning for running with Declan ferry taking third in 15:34 behind Finn Valley’s young pair of Sean McGinley and Oisin Toye. Next Rosses man home run was Shane O’Donnell in 16:07. Patrick Trimble took the bronze in the M50 category in a good time of 17:31. Denis Boner came home in 19:50 with Michael Logue not far behind in 20:00.
First Rosses lady home, 4th overall and county F40 champion in a new PB of 18:55, was Bernie Boyle who has gone from strength to strength this summer. Martina Mulhern got a race despite heavy training F40 bronze in a strong time of 20:09. Next Rosses lady back taking her 3rd team gold since joining the club taking the F35 team title alongside Bernie and Martina was Selina O Donnell in 21:05. Closely followed by Cathy Breslin taking the F50 gold in 21:06. Karen Deveney has been racing regularly and reaping the rewards setting a nice new PB of 23:57. Well done to all and great showings and placings.
On Saturday it was the first run out of the season for the juveniles with the Donegal juvenile uneven ages cross country relays which was excellently hosted by Tír Chonaill AC.
The day got off to a great start with the U9 girls claiming gold while the U9 boys got silver. The U11 girls got up for bronze team medals with the u13 girls getting silver medals. The u11 and u13 boys teams got up to 4th place and know they have team members to add. The last race of the day was the u16 mixed relay where Odhran Rodgers, Faela Houston, Aoife McGonigle and Evan Ward were to take home gold with a strong run. Big thanks to all athletes, parents and coaches who travelled. Well done all.
Elsewhere, in the Ratoath Half Marathon & Quest Lough Derg from the weekend past we had two Rosses athletes competing in different parts of the country. Firstly proud Rosses man Michael Doherty who has been training hard recently raced the Ratoath half marathon running a fine time of 1:46:34. The weekend sees the action switch to the Masters Cross Country taking place as part of the Champions Cup in Finn Valley on Sunday. Training continues Mondays and Thursdays at 6:15pm at Carrickfinn and training will be starting next week on Tuesdays at 6:15pm at Magheragallon in Gaoth Dobhair.
