The Fish Stop in Killybegs is set to close within weeks, it has been announced.
The popular shop, which stocks fresh catches by Atlantic Treasures, will close indefinitely at the end of September.
The Fish Stop has been a go-to retail destination for premium seafood and local products, made popular by the famous ‘singing fishmonger’ Ronan Cunningham.
However, store owner Michael O’Donnell that the current economic climate, ongoing increase in costs and lack of supply of fish, it has made the business unsustainable.
A notice to customers said: “We firstly and foremost would like to thank Ronan Cunningham for all his work and without him the shop simply wouldn’t have existed, to all our customers we would like to thank you all for your custom throughout the years and for supporting a local business.
“To Eithne Gallagher for being a great landlady and both the Killybegs community council and the Killybegs Regeneration Group for supporting the initial set up of the place, it was great to have another set of lights on in the Main Street.
“Ronan is off this coming week for some well deserved holidays.
