Donegal County Council has reportedly agreed to buy a historic property in the Twin Towns with a view to constructing a new relief road.
‘Rosemount’ on Donegal Street, which had a price tag of €300,000, went ‘sale agreed’ in July.
Donegal Daily understands the council intends to use the substantial property to construct a new relief road, between Donegal Street and Glenfin Road. This, it is hoped, will relieve the traffic bottleneck that is Glenfin Street. The long-term plan is that the street will eventually be pedestrianised, once the Twin Towns Bypass is completed.
The property offers a possible link between Donegal Street and Glenfin Road.
The six-bedroom 1920s-style dormer bungalow is located on a private plot which includes almost one acre of landscaped gardens.
The Ballybofey house was the home of late doctor and businessman, Frank Mulrine. Dr Mulrine, who passed away in October, 2020, was the former chairman of soft drinks manufacturer, P. Mulrine & Sons.
