Convoy teenager Nathan Gillespie raised over €1,000 for the RNLI Sligo Bay following a super 5k challenge.
Nathan, a 3rd year student in Royal and Prior Raphoe, ran 5km for 45 consecutive days. That’s 225km in total!
The challenge was inspired by Nathan’s grandfather, Stuart Baker, who volunteers with the Sligo Bay crew. Stuart is Shore Crew and Boathouse Manager at the station and was incredibly proud of his grandson’s achievement.

Nathan’s challenge actually began as a bet!
This summer, he wanted to keep fit by running every day of his holidays until he returned to school. His family dared him to keep going, and he was determined to show them what he could do when he set his mind to it.
Nathan added extra motivation by setting up an online fundraiser for the Sligo Bay Lifeboat Station.
As Nathan clocked up the kilometres, his family were delighted to support him and help him raise funds for a cause near to their hearts.
Nathan’s commitment paid off as he raised an impressive €1050.25, which was presented to the crew and mascot Stormy Stan last weekend.
A spokesperson said: “Nathan from all of us at Sligo Bay Lifeboat station a huge Thank You – you are an inspiration.”
