The grand total of the Dublin to Drimarone Charity Cycle has been revealed today, with €62,000 to be donated to three local causes.
The Patient Comfort at the Oncology Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital will be the main beneficiary of the memorial cycle in tribute to Donegal Town man Seamus McGinty. Seamus passed away in 2021 after a short illness.
Contributions are also being made to Letterbarrow Celtic FC and Drimarone Development Association.
The major fundraiser saw around 70 cyclists from across Donegal pedalling 240lm from west County Dublin near Leixlip to Drimarone in Donegal in August.
There is a mixture of experienced and inexperienced cyclists taking part. Many of the group hailed from Drimarone and surrounding areas with people also taking part from Letterkenny, Carrick, Killybegs, Ardara, Glenties, Mountcharles, Frosses, Donegal Town and Laghey. People living in Dublin, Kilkenny, Meath, London and Philadelphia were also welcomed to the challenge.
“Seamus is definitely smiling with pride again today at such a fantastic amount raised,” said organisers.
