The sun is smiling down on an incredible group of volunteers taking part in the third charity Donegal Camino this week.
Walking for a cause has always been an incredible way to give back to society and improve our well-being. And that’s what the Donegal Camino is all about.
From the music, the sunshine and the friendly chat, our 15km hike to Horn Head was a wonderful experience.
But what made it even more special was knowing that we were taking big steps to make a difference.
The Donegal Camino is not just a beautiful walk, it’s a walk with a purpose. The week of walking raises funds for Cancer Care West Services across Donegal.
It also showcases Donegal as a world class walking and hiking destination, and the coastal views we saw yesterday were the perfect example of what Donegal has to offer.
Over 80 people trekked from Dunfanaghy to Horn Head, taking in breathtaking coastal scenes. We enjoyed top-class entertainment from Mickey Joe Harte, accordion player Seamus O’Sullivan and the greatest showman… Noel Cunningham!
Thanks to the organising committee, the professional guides led by John McGroary and all the volunteers for the lovely day.
The journey continues today as over 70 brace souls took a sunrise hike up Errigal, followed by Tory Island, Maghery, and finishing at Sliabh Liag. Best of luck to everyone completing the challenge!
Noel Cunningham, Board Member of Cancer Care West, said: “Since its foundation the Donegal Camino has donated €75,600 to Cancer Care West which is invested in the wonderful support centre in Letterkenny and other services for cancer patients and their families in Donegal. A much needed service, we’re very proud of the growing Donegal Camino, the generosity of walkers, our corporate sponsors and those who donate, collectively we’re developing a precious and memorable walking event which supports a much needed service here in Donegal”.
The Donegal Camino voluntary committee includes founder Peggy Stringer, former Donegal Persons of the Year, Deirdre McGlone and Noel Cunningham. The original committee is joined by Noreen D’Arcy, D’Arcy Marketing & PR from Galway, who has strong Donegal family connections, and Donegal businessman, John Mc Namara of Sendmode.
