Donegal man Alan Millar has been nominated for Scots Writer of the Year and he needs your vote!
He is in the prestigious Scots Language Awards, taking place in Johnstone Town Hall, near Glasgow, on Saturday, September 16.
However, the vote is open until this Sunday, September 10, and Alan is appealing to local people to support him in his bid to become the first writer from Ireland to win this hotly contested accolade.
Originally from St Johnston, he is now a Ballymoney-based journalist and was nominated for his collection of poems in Ulster-Scots, published earlier this summer.
“I am surprised and delighted to have been nominated for Scots Writer of the Year for my book of Ulster-Scots poems, ‘Echas frae tha Big Swilly Swally’,” he said.
“Many of my poems, including the title poem ‘Echas frae tha Big Swilly Swally’, are set in Donegal, in the Swilly, Laggan and Lifford areas.”
The public vote is now open until midnight on Sunday and he’d really appreciate it if you would take a few minutes of your time to go and vote for him.
“No Irish person has even won this award before and it would be a real boost to have a local person top the poll,” he added.
“Now is your chance to support a local writer in this prestigious event ‘ower the sheugh’.
“Many thanks to everyone who has already voted for me and thanks in advance to everyone else for taking the time to support me,” Alan concluded.
