Tomorrow’s Senior Championship clash between Glenfin and MacCumhaills has been postponed in light of the untimely death of Gareth Martin.
The popular Glenfin clubman, a former player and manager, passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning.
The Donegal GAA CCC said it decided to postpone this weekend’s senior and reserves games following a request from CLG Glenfin.
“We wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Gareth’s family, wife Denise, daughter Courtney, sons Alex, Jude and Louie, parents Geraldine and Francie along with the extended Martin and Whoriskey family and to his club members, fellow players and teams under his care,” a Donegal GAA spokesperson said.
The MacCumhaills club confirmed, as a mark of respect, their 5km race which was due to take place last evening and Family Fun Day tomorrow have been postponed to a later date.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Martin family and Glenfin GAA Club at this tragic time,” a club spokesperson said.
“We especially keep in mind his daughter, Courtney O’Brien, former senior ladies player, at this difficult time. Ar dhèis Dè go raibh a anam.”
Meanwhile, Cappry Rovers also confirmed it has postponed all club activities until further notice.
The late Mr Martin is survived by his loving wife Denise, daughter Courtney, sons Alex, Jude and Louie. He also leaves behind his parents, Geraldine and Francie, sister Karina (Billy), Tara (James), Jordan (Enda), grandmother Mary Martin, mother and father in law, Denis and Mary Whoriskey (and predeceased by his sister Nicola, grandparents and Uncle Sean), nieces and nephews Lauren, Dáire, Abaigh and Evie, all aunts and uncles, cousins, extended family, close friends and neighbours.
His remains will repose at his home from 2 pm until 8 pm today, with Rosary at 8 pm. Family time from after the Rosary and on the morning of the funeral. The funeral Mass will take place tomorrow at 2 pm in The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Glenfin, with burial afterwards in Cill Mhuire Cemetery.
